2006-2007 Program And Member Guide
The North Brookfield Historical Society was founded in 1975 and later incorporated for the purpose of studying, sharing, publicizing, and preserving the history of the town. It seeks to do this through regular meetings, programs, acquiring historic objects, papers, photographs, and printed and manuscript materials. And overseeing the collections, which are currently in storage do to the renovation of the Haston Library. Membership: Anyone interested in the Society and its objectives may become a member upon the payment of the annual dues, or become a life member upon payment of a one-time fee. Businesses are encouraged to support the Society by annual memberships. Your support is needed now, more the ever. For the preservation and storage of the collection. Donations of North Brookfield-related photos, family and business papers, printed materials, and artifacts are encouraged. Financial contributions are also greatly appreciated. You will help preserve the town's history for an appreciative posterity. Broaden the collection, and be able to clam tax deduction.
Publications: Temple's remarkable History of Brookfield North has been reprinted by the Society in its 824 page entirety, complete with folding plates, and extensive genealogy section. Hardbound, $65 each. Reprints of Bonum Nye's 1830 map, originally lithographed in Boston, on heavy stock, 19.5 x 26 inches, and suitable for framing, $8 each. Other prints and media as they become available. Available at the Library, Historical Society meeting or program.

Programs for 2006-2007
Meetings and special programs are held at 7:00pm. Usually on the fourth Wednesday of the month in the undercroft of Christ Memorial Church, Main Street North Brookfield, next to Haston Library. Programs are always free and open to the public. Every one is invited to attend.
September 27th, 2006. Important business meeting, election of officers and other issues up for voting on. Dues are due at this time.
October 25th, 2006. Quaboag Plantation 350 Years of History 200 Years of Celebrations. Bill Jankins, president of the Quaboag Historical Society, tells about past celebrations and plans for Quaboag's 350th in 2010. Anyone interested in becoming involved in this once in a life time event is urged to attend this program.
November 29th, 2006. 'Bountiful Gift': The History of the Haston Library. Ellen Smith and Librarian Ann Kid, reprises a lively power point presentation the Hastons the building they donated, and its story. (Note: This is the 5th Wed)
January 24th, 2006. Regular business meeting Agenda to be announced.
February 28th, 2007 North Brookfield Service Stations, John J "Bud" Lane gives us the second half of last year's well regarded presentation detailing the history of car dealerships in North Brookfield. This year's program focuses on service stations and the folks who provided car care to the people of the town.
March 28th, 2007. Old Photographs of North Brookfield. Museum Committee member and Historical Society Photographer, Paulette Adams, will display scores of early pictures, partly for her own collection, with many copies made from the Museum's collection. Help identify some. Bring your own photos. We will be copying some of the more interesting ones not yet in our collection.
April 25th, 2007. The True Story of the Amazing Madam Jumel . Local Historian, Robert W, Wilder offers the results of his long research about this woman "of various reputes', once a local resident, later the wife of Aaron Burr, who be came the wealthiest woman in the country. This is a very special, do not miss program.
May 23rd, 2007. North Brookfield Vets Remember. A number of our service people recall for us when and where they did duty and relate some of their odd, dangerous, or at least memorable experiences. This special pre-memorial day program is for the whole family.
